Finding your bakery venue in a new neighborhood is a quite exciting and fun, and it takes patience as well, but it’s absolutely a rewarding effort which makes the best matching presentation for your storefront and building a neighborhood connection with your bakery. Since I’ve moved to Boston 28 years ago, I’ve witnessed so many bakeries come and go. It’s like a movie trailer for a pop-up baking-a-loaf story. Some have been staying, some have disappeared quickly.
One of the critical ingredients to be able to stay in business is finding a matching chemistry between your bakery and a local neighborhood by knowing who lives there, as well as what’s their taste and how they enjoy their wealth. Some have a very tight wallet-string but some don’t mind to spend for whatever new stuff shows up. Not just Boston, every city has an invisible indication for each neighborhoods uniqueness. Therefore, you want find “the neighborhood” that you can fit in and welcomed for your bread. Of course, your product must provide a great taste and mouthwatering experience for customers.

Last 7 or 8 years, Boston(and suburb) dining scenery has made a quite dynamic change in a fast pace and what’s very interesting is that Boston has started to welcome more businesses from out of the state, such as Shake Shack, Magnolia, Momofuku, Sweetgreen and so on and so forth. Plus, there has been the new landscape developments in Seaport district and Boston Landing area. Boston neighborhoods are getting a really hot spot location and building up the momentum for business to move in and it most likely continues the trend for at least next 5 years or so.
So, I would say that if you’re planning for your bakery to branch out, Boston can be one of great potential candidates you should consider now and not later. At the same time, I would also suggest that you want to have a clear idea “What’s in your mind for a picture perfect venue for your bakery in a new neighborhood?” which I will talk about next time.
In the meantime, if you enjoyed this post, feel free to share it on Twitter or Facebook and I’d greatly appreciated it!
